Lending library policies

Anyone residing in the Commonwealth of Virginia is eligible to check out items from the Virginia Autism Resource Center lending library. Borrowing from our library is free and a maximum of two items may be checked out at one time. If you are interested in additional items, you may check them out upon return of the originals.

The checkout period for any item is three weeks. If you need additional time, please call or e-mail to request an extension. If there is not a wait for the item, a three-week extension may be granted.

A lending library checkout sheet must be filled out completely for all items borrowed from the library. The borrower must furnish two phone numbers or points of contact on the form — business phone, home phone, cell phone, fax or e-mail.

Getting materials

Borrowers can call or e-mail their request to checkout items and have these mailed to them through the U.S. Postal Service by first-class mail. We will insure all packages. Most items can be mailed; however, VARC staff reserves the right to determine that an item should not be shipped due to worth or risk.

Returning materials

Items may be returned to the library by mailing through the U.S. Postal Service or any other shipping service. We request that you mail and insure the materials when sending them back. You can insure the package at a very low cost by requesting insurance. If you fail to insure the package and it is lost or damaged in the mail, you may be charged a replacement fee.

Ship all materials to VARC at:

Virginia Autism Resource Center Lending Library
4100 Priceclub Boulevard
Midlothian, Virginia 23112

Overdue notices

Overdue notices will be sent after the fourth week of checkout, when materials are one week overdue. If three overdue notices and/or contacts are given and the item is still not returned, you may be charged a replacement fee.

Loss of borrowing privileges

Consistent late returns or damaged returns by a consumer may result in the loss of borrowing privileges.

Borrower responsibility

Each borrower assumes full responsibility for all items borrowed and for adhering to library policies concerning loan periods. VARC may charge up to the full cost of the item at time of purchasing for any items that are lost, stolen or damaged.
